Master Of Medicine In Pediatrics And Child Health Program


The MPC program was nurtured in 2014; after realisation that there was acute shortage of specialised Paediatricians willing to work outside Kampala.

So, the faculty wanted to generate home grown specialists with rural affinity other than urban affinity which was get rich quickly driven.

Under the mentorship of Prof Waako Paul, the department under my pioneering started developing a training curriculum for the course.

It took us 2-years for UNICHE to accredit the faculty to conduct this training. Suffice it to state that the course is a hybrid course that took in to consideration the similar programs run by MEPI-MESAU affiliated Universities in Uganda and the South Sudan.

The MPC program has been running for 3 years now.It has had its anticipated challenges but our resilience has solve many.

Staffing levels

  1. Three full-time lecturers.
  2. Four collaborating lecturers teaching Social Pediiatrics, community Pediiatrics, epidemiology, research and bio-statistics.
  3. Three Visiting specialists from Makerere university, and Global Health Educators
  4. Two Honorary lecturers from Mbale Regional Referral Hospital
  5. Three laboratory and radiological technicians.
  6. Young upstart members are encouraged to upgrade to improve staffing standards

Student Population

  1. Year one 2-students self-sponsoring.
  2. Year two 2-students self-sponsoring
  3. Year three 3 students- sponsored by government and one by MICRI-Mbale.
