Samuel Baker Obakiro is a Pharmacologist / medicinal chemist with MSc. Pharmacology and BSc. (Chemistry and Botany) degrees from Makerere University Kampala and a PhD candidate at Moi University Kenya Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. He is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics Faculty of Health Sciences, Busitema University. His research focuses on discovery and development of drugs from natural products against Tuberculosis and other infectious diseases (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9258-2519). Samuel was the Principal Investigator of a two years VLIRUOS funded project that was aimed at “Tracking and mapping antimicrobial resistance in Eastern Uganda”. Currently he is the Principal Investigator of a government of Uganda funded project that is aimed at, “Formulating herbal product (s) for management of COVID -19 at Busitema University”. He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (676738), Natural Products Research for Eastern and Central Africa (NAPRECA) and Uganda Pharmacological society (UPharS), Natural Product Industry Advancement Network Africa (NAPIANA). His career objective is to build technical capacity and competence in pharmacology and toxicology research, training and mentoring of biomedical scientists and leadership so as to contribute towards improved health care and community transformation. Samuel has researched and published in several peer reviewed journals and his work can be accessed on google scholar and research gate.
