Mr. Okalang Uthman is a professional graduate teacher of Biology and Chemistry turned into a Molecular Microbiologist over the course of time. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Education and a Master of Science in Molecular Biology both from Makerere University, Uganda and a Master of Science in Microbiology from Bar-Ilan University, Israel. At Makerere University for his MSc (Molecular Biology) thesis, he created a Trypanosoma brucei brucei expression library and screened it by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for coding genes with emphasis on those which could be studied for drug and vaccine design and development against trypanosomiasis meanwhile in the second masters, MSc (Microbiology) thesis, at Bar-Ilan University, he identified novel inducers of the Spliced Leader RNA Silencing (SLS) in Trypanosoma brucei. He further carried out research on the effects of mutations on a serine threonine kinase, PK3, phosphorylation sites to SLS as well as PK3 interactome identification. He has experience in a wide array of Molecular Biology techniques involving both nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and proteins. On the teaching side, he has over 20 years of teaching experience spanning from 2000 to date. He has experience in teaching at both Secondary School (S.1 to S.6) and University (since 2007). He has taught both laboratory and non-laboratory based courses to undergraduate and masters students. He also has experience in curricula writing and revision. His research interests are in the areas of Molecular Biology, Molecular Microbiology and Epidemiology of both human and livestock diseases.
